The Walter Place Estate is a historic house in Holly Springs, Mississippi. It is best noted for being the home of Union General Ulysses S. Grant and his family during the Civil War.
Constructed in 1859, the Walter Place Estate is one of the last grand mansions completed before the American Civil War. Made for Harvey Washington Walter, it is also noted for its unique architectural design, which is a combination of Gothic and Greek Revival styles. Aside from serving as the home of the Grant family, the mansion was also used as a hospital during the Yellow Fever Epidemic in 1878.
Recently restored to its original appearance, the Walter Place Estate is now open for tours. It also offers historic cottages and scenic gardens to its visitors.
