The Ashby-Hodge Gallery of American Art has been a highlight and significant attraction for the Central Methodist University campus. Established in 1993, it features 5 shows each year, spread during each semester and summer. These shows usually represent artists who use different forms and are mostly from the mid-Missouri area. Touring shows are also booked at times in order to provide a wider picture and background of art in America.

The Gallery?s collection also features a collection containing more than 700 works, including the Ashby Collection that consists of 150 works. Special tours are available for appointment.

The Ashby-Hodge Gallery of Art was officially opened on October 29, 1993. Named in honor of the late Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence D. Ashby, the Museum features a main collection that was donated by the couple. It was also named after Dr. and Mrs. Robert H. Lode, who were long-time residents of Kansas City and are special benefactors together with the CMU Class of 1943.

The Ashby Collection features oil paintings, drawings, lithographs, acrylics, and others.
