In Independence, Missouri sands the Harry S. Truman Historic District. The area is closely linked to the former president, as it served as his home while in the state and is the location of the Truman Presidential Library.

The Harry S. Truman District includes Harry Truman and his wife?s, Bess, home, the Wallace House, in Missouri. It was actually owned by Bess Wallace?s family, built by his grandfather in the late half of the 1800s. This home continuously served as their residence, from the time they got married and until they were already residing in Washington for Truman?s official duties. This is also where their child, Mary Margaret, was born in 1924.

Aside from the Wallace House, the district also includes two other residential buildings that were once the homes of Mrs. Truman?s brothers, and one old home that used to belong to the former President?s beloved aunt and cousins.
