One of the finest North American examples of the traditional French Colonial architecture is the Louis Bolduc House in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. It is also known as Maison Bolduc, originally owned by Louis Bolduc, a mine owner, merchant, and trader, in 1792.

The Louis Bolduc House is a good, and old, example of the “poteaux sur solle” or “posts-on-sill” construction. It is the very first historic site in the area.

Winner of the Preserve America Award in 2005 and declared as a National Historic Landmark in 1966, the Louis Bolduc House is now a historic house museum. It is run and managed by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America since 1949, along with two other historic buildings in Ste. Genevieve.
