A former home to one of Walter Raleigh Lenoir’s descendants, Slater Ensor Lenoir and wife Margaret Bradford Lenoir, the Maplewood is a historic house in Columbia, Missouri. The property got its name after the location’s abundance of sugar maple trees. The house stayed with the family until it was acquired in the 1970 by the City of Columbia.

The Maplewood originally encompassed 427 acres of land. After the original owners passed away in the1920s, some portions of the lot were donated to the National Christian Benevolent Association and transformed to the Lenoir Manor and Lenoir Retirement Community. The house was then passed to their daughter, Lavinia, and her husband, Dr. Frank Nifong.

The Maplewood is now a part of the Dr. Frank Nifong Memorial Park.
