The Missouri History Museum was founded at the Old Courthouse on August 11. 1866. In November 1987, St. Louis residents voted to establish a Missouri History Museum Subdistrict that will provide tax support for the operational needs of the Missouri History Museum, including exhibit design and development, educational programming, and the conservation of artifacts and other documents.

Today, the Missouri History Museum houses both permanent and travelling exhibits as part of its commitment to the exploration of the history of St. Louis as well as Missouri. It has special programs for school classes and other youth groups that are customized for their curriculum and learning needs.

Special exhibits may require admission fees. However, admission to the Museum is always free for everyone.
