The Walkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site is a preservation effort made to commemorate the very first planned community in North America. This Mill was first owned and named after Waltus Watkins. It was also originally known as the Bethany Plantation, which was then developed into a community when housing was built for the mill workers.

Today, people can visit this 1500 acre park and view the records, buildings, and machineries that were used in its heyday in the mid 19th century. It is also popular with fishing enthusiasts, as the 100 acre lake is a great spot for catching game. It also has 96 campsites.

The Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1966.
