In 1946, the Westminster College Gymnasium in Fulton, Missouri was the site where Winston Churchill stated his famous “Sinews of Peace” speech on March 5, 1946. In 1928-1929, with two-story block to either side of the prominent entrance block and its 80 feet by 155-foot brick structure the building was designed for Winston Churchill’s speech before an audience of 2800.
Winston Churchill’s speech on March 5 1946 introduced the term “Iron Curtain” to the public which made a turning point in international relations and was once commented by the former President Truman saying “It was one of the greatest speeches I ever listened to, a part of the policy of the free world ever since. In May 2, 1968, the Westminster College Gymnasium was designated in the National Historic Landmark.
