The Chief Joseph Battleground of Bear’s Paw is the site of the Battle of the Bear Paws, also known as the battle of the Bears Paw Mountains. A significant part of the American Indian Wars, this was when the UC government fought the Nez Perce in 1877, when the government pressured the Indians to move to a reservation.

The Chief Joseph Battleground of Bear’s Paw is a witness to Chief Joseph’s great leading and warrior skills. He was praised for his courage and tactics by war generals and soldiers who have encountered him in the field, including General Howard, Colonel Miles, and General William Sherman.

Today, the Chief Joseph Battleground of Bear’s Paw is a part of the Nez Perce Historical Park.
