Outdoor adventurers and mountaineers will definitely face a challenge when they set their hiking boots on the foot of Chief Mountain, a prominent geographical formation in the US state of Montana.

Chief Mountain is one of the most prominent rock formations in Montana, located between Glacier National Park and Blackfeet Indian Reservation. Its trademark square peak proves to be an enticing conquest to take on by any mountaineer.

Chief Mountain has been a sacred mountain to Blackfeet American Indian tribes. A mountain of many names, the mountain is called Ninastiko by the Blackfeet tribe. It was referred to as the “King’s Peak” in 1795 by early Caucasian explorers. The other half of the historic Lewis and Clark Expedition, Meriwether Lewis, called it the “Tower Mountain”. The lower slopes are located within Blackfeet Indian Reservation while the summit and eastern slopes are inside the Glacier National Park.
