The city of Fort Benton is popularly known as the birthplace of Montana. It was the center of the fur trade back in the mid 1800s, seeing a great amount of activities and sales of such products upon its establishment in 1847. These events made it a very important economic center, attracting merchants, settlers, miners, and traders from all over the region.

The Fort Benton Historic District, declared as a National Historic Landmark District in 1961, is the site that has started the development of Montana.
Although, the mining boom ended the importance of Fort Benton as fur trading started to dwindle down, it is still marked as a very important part of history.

Offering a series of historic attractions, the Fort Benton Historic Site is a really great stop in Montana.
