The Great Falls Portage is a part of the Giant Springs State Park in Great Falls, Montana. It was the portage of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1805, which proved to be one of the most difficult undertakings that the trip has ever gone through. The area measures a total of 18 miles and presented a lot of hardship and danger to Lewis and his crew, being mostly composed of rocky terrain.

Sadly, as some portions of the area are privately owned, plans of developing it are looming. This, in turn, threatens the integrity of the two century old site. It was listed as one of America?s Most Endangered Places by the National trust for Historic Preservation in 2008.
