The Kootenai National Forest is a nature preserve and recreation area located in the far northwestern section of Montana, bordering on Idaho and Canada. It is composed of 2.2 million acres with its headquarters located in Libby, Montana.
The Kootenai National Forest presents a wide range of outdoor activities to its visitors. It offers miles of backcountry roads to access the Forest. Some areas, however, are closed to motorized vehicles to ensure the protection of wildlife and watershed values. Hiking, horseback riding, and wildlife viewing are just some of the top activities that can be enjoyed in the site?s various sections and areas.
The Kootenai National Forest is open year round. Just make sure to get the proper passes and permissions before doing anything, though.
