Within the Glacier National Park stands the Lake McDonald Lodge. This historic Swiss chalet style structure is a National Historic Landmark as of 1987, and is historically significant for its architecture and inclusion in the chalet system of the Glacier Park Hotel Company.
Built after Kirtland Cutter?s design by John Lewis in 1913, the Lake McDonald Lodge was constructed during the time when the Great Northern Railway started creating backcountry chalets and hotels. This thing was a trend at the time, paving the way for faraway scenic areas to become target destinations for vacationers.
Adorned with many different interesting details, the Lake McDonald Lodge still operates as a hotel and provides accommodation to visitors today. Acquired by the Glacier Park Hotel Company in 1930, the group still manages the National Historic Landmark at present.
