The first state park in the state of Montana is the Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park. It was named after the cavern, which itself was named after the historic Lewis and Clark expedition. It is located in Jefferson County, Montana. Discovered in 1892, the cavern and the surrounding site were initially established as ?Lewis and Clark Cavern National Monument?. This 160-acre cave is located 45 miles west of the nearest city of Bozeman, and just 60 miles northwest from the Yellowstone National Park.

Today, the beautiful limestone cave is one of the most beautiful of its kind in the Northwest. The spectacular cave features cave walls and ceilings lined with stalagmites, stalactites, columns, and helictites. The cave tour is popular among visitors, who can also partake in other activities such as hiking, cabin rentals and camping.
