The Makoshika Dinosaur Museum provides visitors experiences that enrich their paleontological and cultural knowledge through educational and enjoyable activities brought by its efforts to preserve collections, interpretive displays, and educational programs. The Museum serves as a representation of a new model for regional museums. It regularly exhibits dioramas reflecting the details of the history and diversity of this field.

The Museum?s collection includes fossils, sculptures, and casts of prehistoric animals from all over the world, with most of them coming from the Hell Creek formation. It also boasts of unique displays, with the bad lands backdrop, as it continues to grow with the support from corporate and private sponsors. The displays are mostly locally found and some are in life-like formats that provide an experience closer to the past.

The Museum offers programs for interns who want to train on various projects, including techniques on molding and casting as well as fossil preparation and field work. The on-site prep-lab can be viewed and visitors can even arrange for a dinosaur dig.
