The Missouri Headwaters State Park may bear the name of the state of Missouri in its name, but it is actually a National Historic Landmark in Montana. It was created to mark the official start of the Missouri River and contains the Three Forks of the Missouri.

Aside from the official start of what once was the longest river in North America, the Missouri Headwaters State Park is also where folks can see the confluence of the Jefferson, Madison, and Gallatin Rivers. The site is also historical for being a Lewis and Clark Expedition camp in 1805.

The Missouri Headwaters State Park features picnic spots, hiking trails, campground, interpretive signs, and a rental tipi. An informative speaker series is also held every Saturday night.
