The Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center was chosen in 2003 by legislature to be constructed in Wolf Point in Montana. It started out at ground zero. The central office is located in Wolf Point, with the building to be built on acreage adjacent to Highway 2 on land given by the Wolf Point Chamber of Commerce.

The Montana CHF is collaborating with the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame and the Montana Pro Rodeo Hall and Wall of Fame to promote western heritage within the region. The Montana CHF and WHC will be the "school house" that will encourage the preservation of its heritage. It is a evolutionary and organic experiment in interactive teaching; a testament to the unrelenting nature of its values, cultural heritage, and way of life.

The Montana campus will provide a comfortable, safe, and exciting venue through which visitors and students and can enter to experience the teamwork and character it took to build this iconic state. It inspires respect for its diverse, colorful and powerful cultural tradition. Exhibits, collections, and an interactive educational atmosphere consistently motivates and inspires the visitors of Montana CHF to bond with the spirit of the cowboy emotionally and intellectually.

The Hall of Fame organization aims to provide a distinct understanding of the cowboy?s way of life, Indian tradition and its western roots by educating others the vibrant history that has shaped Montana. It honors Montana's cowgirls, cowgirls, landscape, settlers, rodeos, ranches, industries, Indian cultures, wildlife and communities that define Montana with carefully considered yearly inductions into the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame.

The Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame also provides a progressive framework for sustainability through creative, dynamic, and ongoing marketing strategies that target memberships, visitation, endowments, donations, and other fund and attendance-raising campaigns.
