The Montana State Capitol is truly the state?s treasure and symbol. It has graced several postcards, souvenirs and collectibles since its completion 1902. Its trademark copper-plated dome and Greek Neoclassical architectural style graces the cityscape of the capital city, Helena.

The sandstone and granite building currently houses the Montana State Legislature. Atop the copper dome is a statue of a woman affectionately called ?Lady Liberty?. Inside is a massive rotunda painted with gold and adorned with four circular paintings depicting Montana?s history archetypes: a cowboy, a Native American, an explorer and a gold miner. The western arch of the rotunda displays an elliptical painting named ?Driving the Golden Spike?. In front of it is the statue of Jeannette Rankin, the first woman to be elected to the United States House of Representatives.
