The Original Governor?s Mansion is a historic building in Helena, Montana. It is best noted for being the former official residence of the Governor of the State of Montana.

Built in 1888 by William Chessman, a local entrepreneur, the Original Governor?s Mansion has always stood as a symbol of prominence and even wealth. It was specifically designed by Chessman to in the stately Queen Anne style to tell of his influence and wealth in the area. The next property owners were just as affluent as well.

The property was acquired in 1913 by the State of Montana. It served as the first official governor?s residence that year. It was used until 1959 and housed 9 Montana governors and their families. It is open for tours today.
