Jeanette Rankin was the first female US House of Representatives member in history. She was best known for her pacifism, advocating of women?s rights, and opposition to the war with Japan. The Rankin Ranch was her home after her first two terms and during her third term holding office.

The Rankin Ranch was home to the former congresswoman from 1923 to 1956. It was actually owned by her brother, and was believed to be built in 1923, although some parts could have been constructed earlier than that.

Declared as a National Historic Landmark in 1976, the Rankin Ranch has a lot of great stories to tell. It is tucked away from Avalanche Gulch?s major sites, though, so looking for it may prove a challenge.
