Nebraska’s premier museum that features the finest collection of visual arts can be found at Joslyn Art Museum in the city of Omaha. This is the only museum in Nebraska that has an extensive permanent collection from the earliest recorded history up to the present day.

The museum building itself is touted to be one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in the United States. It was completed in 1931 as Sarah Joslyn’s gift in remembrance of her husband, George Joslyn.

Among the permanent exhibits in the collections are: Greek pottery samples; 16th and 17th artworks from Titian and El Greco; 19th century paintings by Delacroix, Courbet, Monet and Renoir; American paintings by artists like James Peale, Winslow Homer, and Childe Hassam; and traditional Native American artworks. The museum also offers musical performances, lectures and art classes. The museum also houses a library, lecture hall, gift shop and café.
