The Petrified Wood Gallery showcases the natural history of Ogallala that focuses on ancient woods and fossils. It also features Native American arrowheads and artifacts. The Museum’s collection started out with the efforts of Howard and Harvey Kenfield, brothers who started collecting artifacts and other items in the 1950’s.

The brothers donated the collection to Ogallala for display and for the benefit of the public.

Visitors to the museum will see an impressive courtyard once they step out of its exhibit area. This courtyard has been landscaped and maintained by the Kenfield brothers. It boasts of annuals, fountains, perennials, and a tree that was constructed of barbed wire. It provides a serene and peaceful place for visitors to relax and reflect.
