The Pilgrim Holiness Church was built in 1928. However, since the times back then were tough, and funding were quite scarce, people had to be resourceful in the construction of this church, making it so unique and outstanding today.

Made out of baled rye straw, the Pilgrim Holiness Church is also known as the Baled Hay Church or Baled Straw Church. Its walls are literally made of stacked and baled hay and plastered on the sides to add to the structure?s integrity.

Today, the Pilgrim Holiness Church is the oldest of the only three existing straw bale churches in North America. It was also listed in the National Register of Historic Places, and is now operated by the Arthur County Historical Society.
