The Fleischmann Planetarium located at the University of Nevada in Reno is housed within an oddly shaped structure formally coined as a hyperbolic parabloid. But, despite of its odd façade, inside is an amazing place to learn about outer space. It consists of an exhibit hall, a 60-seater theater, a souvenir shop, a lecture room, and gallery. Every year it welcomes at least 44,000 visitors to its state-of-the-art space education facility.
It was constructed in 1964 and was initially known as the Fleischmann Atmospherium-Planetarium. It became the world’s very first planetarium to display 360 degree-dome movies about clouds and weather occurrences. Currently, it uses the Spitz SciDome digital planetarium projector that presents clear and colorful 3D pictures complete with surround sound system.
