The St. Augustine Church was constructed in 1886, making it the oldest Catholic Church in Nevada. Being so, it later became the mother church for all catholic churches in the state. Situated on a prominent hill in the narrow canyon of Austin, it easily stands out in its town because of its historical charm. Using a Gothic Revival Style, it consists of a wood and tire clad spire rising to 75 feet.

From the local quarry and brickyard, it only took $50,000 for the church to be finished. Its interior boasts of unique designs and features such as the decorative nine rank Henry C. Kilgen pipe organ. Upon a granite wall built by resident Chuck Bisbo, there are colored murals painted by Rafeal Jolly.

The church underwent its renovation when it was sold to a private buyer who then formed a non-profit organization aiming for its restoration and renovation.
