Also known as the Lucknow Estate, the Castle in the Clouds is basically a 16-room mansion on a mountaintop. It was built by the shoe magnate Thomas Gustave Plant in 1914 for his second wife, Olive Cornelia Dewey.

The Castle in the Clouds features the Craftsman Style architecture. It also has a number of other innovations that are groundbreaking for its time, like interlocking kitchen tiles, central vacuum system, and a circular shower.

It was initially opened as a privately-owned tourist attraction in 1956. However, the Castle in the Clouds is now owned by the non-profit organizations known as the Lakes Region Conservation Trust and Castle Preservation Society. The mansion, as well as the carriage house, art gallery, Patio, Caf?, and gift shop, is open from May to October.
