The Chesterfield Gorge Natural Area is a protected area and a state park in Winchester, New Hampshire. It is best known among hikers as it has great terrain right along the gorge and scenic views as well.
Originally a part of a lumber resource area, the Chesterfield Gorge Natural Area was saved from being razed down by loggers in 1936 by a local farmer named George White. He bought the land in the area to protect is wooded area and later sold fifteen acres of it to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. The group donated the property later on to the state.
Today, the Chesterfield Gorge Natural Area is a well known recreation venue. It also has a visitor center where folks can find information about the local cultural and natural history.
