The Hood Museum of Art serves as a remarkable cultural and educational asset for Dartmouth College and the Upper Valley communities of New Hampshire and Vermont.

A part of Dartmouth College, the museum aims to create learning opportunities using original works of art. Since 1772, Dartmouth College has been collecting items that are now among the 65,000 objects that comprise some of the collections within the college. These collections are contained in 5 former museum buildings within the campus until the Hood of Museum of Art was built in 1985.

The museum, designed by Charles Moore and Chad Floyd of Centerbook Architects, serves as a teaching museum cultivating the direct engagement using works of art for visitors of all ages. More than 10 exhibitions and over a hundred lectures, tours, gallery talks, workshops, family programs, and special programs for Dartmouth students are offered in the museum.

Up to this date, The Hood of Museum of Art is the oldest museum in North America that continuously operates.
