Some people may not see the charm of the area, with just a very big rock as a highlight of an entire park, but the Madison Boulder Natural Area is actually a very interesting place to visit. The park measures a total of 17 acres, and the highlight boulder presents a lot of scientific history and theories.

A good number of theories attempts to answer why there?s a huge boulder in the midst of Madison Boulder Natural Area. Some say that it is made of molten rock that was pressured out of the earth 200 million years ago. Some say that it was washed by great floods or moved during the last ice age.

Today, the Madison Boulder Natural Area is open year round.
