Measuring of up to 55 feet in height, the Memorial Arch of Tilton is a historic landmark in Northfield, New Hampshire, overlooking the town of Tilton. It was built in 1882 by Charles Tilton, a member of the town?s founding family, to honor their legacy. It was intended to be his tomb, but that plan never really took off.

The idea of building an arch came to Tilton when he came back from his visit to Rome. The Arch of Titus inspired him to build something similar in his hometown to honor ?the victories of peace?. It was built in an old Indian fort, so it could stand somewhere noticeable.

After years of neglect, the Memorial Arch of Tilton was restored, repaired, and cleaned in 1984.
