Initially opened in 1902 and taking the name of the nearby Mount Washington, the Mount Washington Hotel is a National Historic Landmark, as per declaration in 1986. It is historically significant for the events that took place in the area and its architecture.

The Mount Washington Hotel was once the largest spa in the White Mountains area upon its opening with its 352 rooms. It has Spanish Renaissance architecture, shaped like the letter Y and has two five-story octagonal towers. Being located in an isolated area, it has become the choice spot for the Bretton Woods Conference that took place in 1944, and was also the venue where the World Bank was established.

Today, Mount Washington Hotel still operates as an accommodation venue.
