The Mount Washington Observatory is a non-profit institution that has been working to monitor the elements in one of the most extreme places in the planet, the rocky, windswept summit of Mount Washington.

It aims to advance the understanding of the natural systems creating the weather and climate on Earth. IT does so by through the maintenance of its mountaintop weather station, research and educational programs and interpretation of the heritage of the Mount Washington region.

The Observatory currently pursues to the recording and dissemination of weather information. Ir provides a benchmark station for the measurement of cosmic ray activity in the upper atmosphere. It also develops the robust instrumentation for severe weather environments and conducts severe weather research and testing.

The peak of Mount Washington is one of the most interesting and provocative locations in New England so it is expected to educate. With the establishment of the
Summit Museum, it has actively continued the educational agenda, which includes a nationally syndicated radio program, The Weather Notebook.

Aside from the natural laboratory research facility, the observatory also has volunteer programs for those who are willing to participate and learn in the summit.
