The Rhododendron State Park located in the town of Fitzwilliam in New Hampshire stands on property that was first owned by Captain Samuel Patch in 1788. He and his son constructed their house known as the “Old Patch Place” and can still be found near the entrance of the Rhododendron State Park. The cottage is not the main attraction of this 2,723-acre park but the 16-acre orchard of Rhododendron Maximum. It is known to be the biggest among similar orchards in both North and Central New England. Visitors can effortlessly view the beauty and enjoy the scent of rhododendron blooms through the 0.6 mile trail created around this National Natural Landmark. The best time to see the flowers abloom is mid-July. Aside from the rhododendrons, one can also enjoy picnics and hikes inside the park.
