The USS Albacore is a research submarine that is best known for being the American pioneer in the teardrop hull design. Its structure was advanced in many terms during its heyday in 1952.

USS Albacore played a huge role in the development of modern submarines. Being the pioneer in its design, it has contributed a lot in what the Navy knows about hydrodynamics and how to build submarines that could perform faster, safer, quieter, and more maneuverable.

Today, the USS Albacore is parked in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Recurring engine failure has driven authorities to park the submarine permanently, as it wasn?t able to deploy on time anymore. It was decommissioned in 1972 and first laid in Philadelphia. In 1989, the sub was declared a National Historic Landmark.
