The Woodman Institute Museum consists of 4 buildings that include an original 1675 fortified colonial garrison house that is furnished with period artifacts. The Museum was established in 1916 for the preservation and promotion of art, natural science, local history.
With offerings for all ages, the Museum’s collection include fossils, minerals, antique toys, nautical instruments, dolls, ship models, birds and butterflies, police and fire items, 10 foot polar bear, a 27 pound lobster, Jeremy Belknap and Senator JP Hale artifacts, Lincoln saddle, a Cocheco mill exhibit, paintings, and other period furniture. These are all displayed in the 1813 Hale House, the 1818 Woodman House, and the 1825 Keefe House.
The Museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday at 12:30 – 4:30 pm.
