The culture and history of the African-Americans in the state of New Jersey is chronicled and preserved by the Afro-American Historical and Cultural Society Museum. It is located at the 2nd floor of the Miller Branch of the Jersey City Public Library. The museum aims to collect, preserve and promote the African-American experience.

The museum contains galleries and halls used for lectures and special exhibits. The museum has a permanent collection of artifacts and other historical materials related to culture of New Jersey?s African Americans, as well as genuine African artifacts. This collection includes documents, photographs, newspapers, books and other memorabilia. Topics of particular importance include the history of slave trade in New Jersey, an underground railroad, replica of a 1930s urban kitchen, the Civil Rights Movement, and New Jersey?s Afro-American churches.
