A famous botanical garden that is operated by the Somerset County Park Commission, the Leonard J. Buck Garden is one of the most famous rock gardens in the United States. Mr. Leonard J. Buck developed the garden in the 1930s with the help of Zenon Schreiber, a landscape architect. When Mr. Buck died in 1974, his widow donated the garden to the Somerset County Park Commission. It was opened for public viewing in 1977.

The garden is famous for its premier rock garden setting featuring a very natural look of woodlands, streams and rock formations. Within the garden are a number of different and beautiful flowers and plants, there is always something in bloom almost every week throughout the year. To accommodate the growing number of visitors each year, the Somerset County Park Commissions improved parking spaces as well as added other facilities.
