The S.S. Atlantus is one of the twelve concrete ships made during the World War I in compensation to the lack of materials like steel for constructing water vessels. It was completed in 1918 by the Liberty Ship Building Company.

S.S. Atlantus? primary function was to take troops home, since the war was already over. However, steel became available soon enough, so it was decommissioned and sold to a civilian. Initially, the new owners wanted to create a ferry dock with the Atlantus and another one of the concrete ships, but a storm ran it aground and being made of concrete, it was never freed again.

For a time, the S.S. Atlantus bore an ad for boat insurance. However, through time, it deteriorated, and its stern is the only thing visible above the water today.
