The Albuquerque Museum of Art and History is a division of Albuquerque Cultural Services Department which is dedicated to preserving the culture and art history of the city as well as the Rio Grande Valley region of New Mexico and the American Southwest in general. The museum is located in Old Town Albuquerque, Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was established in 1967 in its first location at Albuquerque International Airport using the design made by Antoine Predock. Due to growing number of collections, the museum relocated to its present location in 1979. The museum was renovated again in 2005 when it expanded its floor area for additional galleries.
Today, the museum has four major permanent collections. The first one is the “Common Ground: Art in Mexico.” It highlights the evolution of art in New Mexico with a number of museum-owned art pieces. The second permanent collection is the “Four Centuries: History of Albuquerque.” This collection depicts the four hundred years of history of the city, the Rio Grande valley region, and the New Mexico. Collected items vary from remnants of wars and colonialism, maps, old documents, and other historical relics. The third permanent exhibition is the “Sculpture Garden” which is an outdoor museum tour featuring arts in different medium. There are more than 60 pieces of collection from sculptures, paintings, and the likes. The fourth and the last permanent collection is the “Casa San Ysidro.”It is detached from the Museum, located at the north of Albuquerque, Casa San Ysidro, also known as Gutiérrez-Minge House.
