Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum is the world's first facility devoted to the art, science, history, culture, sport and spectacle of ballooning. It houses one of the best collections of ballooning equipments and memorabilia in the world.

In 1783, history recorded the first balloon flights and in 1978 Albuquerque balloonists Ben Abruzzo and Maxie Anderson, along with partner Larry Newman, made history when they completed the first non-stop crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a gas balloon. The efforts to build the museum began in mid-1980s in honor of the senior Maxie Anderson who died in a balloon accident in Europe in 1983 and Ben Abruzzo's airplane death in 1985. The City of Albuquerque embraced the project and financed the construction of the facility through the Quality of Life Tax and bond funds.

The Balloon Museum opened its doors to the public on October 1, 2005. In here you will find exhibits that will help visitors see and understand how hot air and gas balloons have been used for adventure, scientific experiments, arts, warfare and the exploration of space. Exhibits are done in a combination of historic artifacts and modern multi-media technology to create a sense of excitement as well as an educational environment. The exhibit topics range from the general to the specific, the historic to the most recent ballooning feats. Interactive and fun activities are also available for kids to enjoy.
