Apache Point Observatory Rating: None

New Mexico Attractions / Landmarks / Places > Sunspot Email This Bookmark Print
Equipped with the three heavy duty telescopes, among a number of others, the Apache Point Observatory is one of the top spots for researchers and scientists. Here, access to the Astrophysical Research Consortium?s 3.5 meter, New Mexico State University?s 1 m, and Sloan Digital Sky Survey?s 2.5 m telescopes are available. The buildings and equipment may be restricted for public use, but the grounds are open to visitors and interested parties.

The Apache Point Observatory is privately owned, so access is quite limited. There are tours to view the telescopes, though, but they are not offered daily. Reservations are required for such services on the site.

Interested parties could send their reservations at least 48 hours in advance. Requests will be subjected for approval first, however.
