The Clayton Lake State Park is a state park in Clayton, New Mexico. It is known for its great natural and geological value.
Established around the mid 1950s, the Clayton Lake State Park was initially created to serve as a habitat for migratory waterfowl. It became a state park in 1968 and is now best known among fishing enthusiasts for its excellent offers. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout, largemouth bass, walleye, and channel catfish among others. It is also been the place where 5 state record walleyes have been caught.
The Clayton Lake State Park is also popular for camping, boating, picnicking, sailing, and wildlife viewing. It is also a designated Dark Sky Park by the Dark Sky Association.
