The state of New Mexico is well known for its desert landscapes. And one of the best examples of such a landscape here is the El Malpais National Monument in the city of Grants. Here, you will definitely find the site?s name Malpais (which means badlands in Spanish) to be rather apt.
El Malpais is composed mainly of rugged plains and rolling hills. Another particular feature that many visitors would want to see are the lava tube caves that are scattered all over the area, though as of present, they are inaccessible to tourists. The La Ventana, a naturally occurring sandstone arch is also open for visitors.
Aside from the natural features, visitors can get a glimpse of the ancient ruins located inside the park.
