The Gadsden Museum is a local history museum in Mesilla, New Mexico. It tells of the great history of the area through rare artifacts and historic items.
Established in 1931 by Albert Jennings Fountain, Jr., the Gadsden Museum was originally a venue dedicated to Colonel Albert Jennings Fountain, who is a local celebrity. The man is best known for being the lawyer of Billy the Kid who defended the infamous outlaw in a murder trial that he was subjected to in the city.
Aside from displays about Col. Fountain, the Gadsden Museum is also home to a great number of displays that have played a huge role in the area?s establishment. Among the list is the original painting of the signing of the Gadsden Purchase in 1853. The Fountain family memorabilia is also on display here.
