The Holloman Air Force Base is a United States Air Force in Alamogordo, New Mexico. It is named after Col. George V. Holloman, best known for being a pioneer in guided missile research. It is also home to the 49th Wing of the Air Combat Command.
While many military bases are off limits to the public, the Holloman Air Force Base is a well known attraction for being the home of the F-117 Nighthawk and the F-22 Raptor. The Nighthawk is also displayed regularly every third Thursday of the month. Aside from this, the site also has a tradition of putting on a large show every two years. It is also home to the Northrop Grumman Lander Challenge.
Opened in 1942, the Holloman Air Force Base is still a completely functional military base today.
