The Kit Carson and Home Museum was the Taos residence that served as Kit Carson’s base where he would always return to. Kit Carson is known for his long and illustrious career that ranges throughout the Southwest. Carson was a guide, trapper, military scout, soldier, Indian agent, and rancher who eventually became a legend. With an active military career, he reached the rank of brigadier-general. He fought against the Mexicans in the 1840’s and he also contributed to the Civil War and Indian campaigns against the Navajo and Plains tribes.

This residence was purchased by Carson in 1843 for his wife, Maria Josefa Jaramillo. Most of the couple’s 8 children were born and raised in this home.

Adjacent to the museum, there is also a Gift Shop where one can purchase Southwest art pieces and history books.
