The Maxwell Museum of Anthropology is an anthropology museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is located inside the campus of the University of New Mexico.
Founded in 1932 as the Museum of Anthropology of the University of Mexico, the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology is also known as the first public museum in the city of Albuquerque. It was renamed in 1972 after the philanthropists Dorothy and Gilbert Maxwell.
The Maxwell Museum of Anthropology is home to over 10 million items in its collections. It features five exhibit areas, most of which chronicle millions of years? worth of history. They also have a courtyard where visitors can find a 46-foot totem pole that was originally from British Columbia and was moved to the museum in 1941.
