The Miles Mineral Museum is a geology museum in Portales, New Mexico. It is located inside the Eastern New Mexico University.
Named after the couple Gladys and Fred Miles, the Miles Mineral Museum started out almost a century ago in 1928. It traces its roots to the couple’s move to Roswell, New Mexico when they discovered the Pecos Valley Diamonds and fell in love with minerals altogether. Originally, the couple’s collection were displayed on their Texaco service station in Roswell, but in 1966, the ENMU stepped in and offered to purchase the over 2500-piece collection from the couple which they agreed to. The collection was displayed and opened to the public at the ENMU campus in 1969.
Today, visitors can explore the Miles Mineral Museum on weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays by appointment.
