The NASA Orbital Debris Observatory is an astronomical observatory in Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Also known as NODO, the site is home to the world?s 17th largest astronomical telescope.
Utilizing a 3.0 meter diameter Liquid Mirror Telescope, the NASA Orbital Debris Observatory is also usually noted as the NASA-LMT. The instrument is much noted, mostly for its innovative design, allowing it to produce images that are comparable to conventional and common glass mirrored telescopes. Aside from the NASA-LMT, they also have a 32 cm Schmidt CDT telescope.
The NASA Orbital Debris Observatory?s primary purpose is focused on providing quantitative information about the population distribution of the orbiting space objects. It is also designed to perform astronomical survey work, aptly located in one of the few dark sky sites in the continental US.
